Acting like Royalty

In the book we are reading, "To Kill a Mockingbird", you can tell that most of the town looks down upon Scout, Jem, and even Atticus in a way for not behaving "fine" and "proper" like a Finch should. Do you think that this is right?

I personally believe that a person should act however they want. If they want to act rowdy, they should be able to. Scout is looked down upon for not acting like a "girl" like the rest of the neighborhood girls and previous Finches. Their image of a "girl" is a person who gossips, never gets dirty or does any physical work, and pretty much just lounges around. Scout is not like this, and doesn't like this impression. Atticus agrees with Scout on this for the most part, and gets looked down upon for it.

I think if a girl wants to be rowdy and do physical things similar to what boys do, they should be able to. Just because someone is a part of a "fine" family, doesn't mean that their name should control how they act and live their lives. We are each individual, and shouldn't be controlled by a tag placed on us upon birth.

Does anyone else agree with this reasoning?

I agree with you completely. Scout, or anyone shouldn't have to act a certain way or be looked down upon if they don't act proper.

I agree with you. I think that everyone is different and has different personalities. Everyone should be able to express who they really are and not have to act a certain way.

I totally agree with you. It is not right to label someone for what gender they are born. A girl should be able to do physical things and be sporty without being looked down upon. It is crazy how people can be so judgemental to someone for being a little different.

yea I agree we should be able to act however we please and its stupid to be held back just because of what family you are born into thats just stupid.
