Missouri in the Depression

When I see this picture I think of all of the little kids who must have had a hard time coping with the Depression. Not only the kids but also the parents. Many people had such a hard time just trying to make ends meet. What do you think this picture symbolizes? I think it is showing how the Depression hurt not only the old but also the young. Families didn't have enough money to put food on the table or do anything fun with families. Now granted they still had games but a lot of the times, they did not have enough money to go to movies or things like that. I would find it interesting to ask the person in this picture what the Depression was really like. In my family there is no one that remembers what it was like during that time period. Do you know anyone who was alive back then, such as a family member? If you do, I would be really interested to hear about it. That is if you know anything about it. Have fun blogging!!!

my great grandmother was about 14 when the depression went on. She had to drop out of school to help to take care of her siblings because the older children had to go try to work to get the little money that they could. I have a few pieces of her jewerly from that time period that she kept. She said it was one of the only things that she did get to keep from that time in her life. Today, she really doesn't have good grammer or can write really well, but if you think about it she doesn't have past an 8th grade education.

Yeah, I would be so scared. What I think would help would be having someone in your family there. In the top corner, theres a few girls huddled together which quickly made me think of my sister and I. I know that I would be so scared to be in that ditch in the first place, but I think having my sister there would almost calm me in a sense.

We keep talking about all these people in the pictures, but for all we know they might not have even made it out the depression. You know, it's really depressing to think of what the little girl in that picture will see, has seen, and will remember. Here's another depressing thought, she's standing on the porch alone, what if she's lost all her family? It would be horrid to live back then, never knowing where your next meal was, if there was one, never knowing WHEN your next meal was coming, never knwoing if you or your loved ones would come out on the other side to tell your story. I think I'd take living in a thousand bee infested houses than live back then.
