Study Guide

Romeo and Juliet. How is it going for everyone? To tell the truth I was a little disapointed in the wedding scene. In the book and in the movies. You don't actually see/read them getting married, which I was looking forward to, other than that it has been good. Well I know that I have some questions about the study guide that we have not gone over or I missed, so I thought that I would make a blog for everyone to post their question from it. So keep checking this blog for questions and Answers!! Here is one of mine... SCENE 3 ...#5 Why do we admire the Friar? Help me out please!

Pickled Pig Brains

Ms. James said that titles catch people's attention, so now that I have yours... Here is my blog!
So reading Romeo and Juliet is definitely getting easier for me to understand, how about you all? There is still a lot that I don't fully understand though until Mrs. James explains it or I look at No fear Shakespeare. So my question is how did everyone in the audience back when the play premiered comprehend it? They did not have a script to refer to or someone smart to explain it. How did all of the uneducated groundlings understand for example what the friar was saying about herbs being good and evil, suns that had eyes, ext. when it was all coming at them so fast. I always have to read the poetry at least twice, even though I get the language ( the meaning still most of the time eludes me) Anyway, I was just kind of wondering. Happy reading!

Deep Questions

I really like the movie so far, does anyone know what all of the costumes are supposed to stand for? I understand that Tybalt is the devil because he is evil, but what exactly is the significance of Romeo being a night and Juliet an angel. Is this just to paint her as very beautiful and him as noble and heroic? If so then I just want to say that taking a drug is not very heroic to me. Also our teacher said that there was also something to do with the fish tank. What is it supposed to signify, that the two star crossed lovers are separated by their families differences? So tell me what you think. Have fun blogging!

Puppy Love?

Isn't Romeo funny. He thinks that he is in love with Rosaline, and because he cannot have her he is severly depressed. He can hardly eat, sleep, or smile. Then in a matter of seconds, he completly falls in love with Juliet. Likewise she is also smitten right off the bat. Is this because of "fate" or was love back in Shakespear time based on looks alone. Do you believe in love at first sight, What is the true definition of love? Here are a few dictionary defintions. I don't think that Romeo could have been truly in love with Rosaline, if he had never even spoken to her! What is your view of love?

Movies

So what did all of you guys think of the movies? I know that the newer version is supposed to be funny, but I'm not sure if I like it or not. I do not like how everything is modern, yet the actors still speak old English. It is slowly growing on me though and it is definitely more interesting than the old version, but I'm still not sure. The part that was the freakiest to me was when Mercuio was talking about Queen Mab, I also think that the drug was not needed it just made Romeo seem less "heroic". Anyway what do you think, which is better old or new? So far I say that latest version is more entertaining, but the older make tells the story better.
