Sneaking Out
I still do not understand the reason it was so important for Jem to get out of the house that night and go check on his dad. It is a good thing he did though. It is amazing how Scout has so much power over the adults in her life. I think all little kids have this power. We all at one time or another figure out how to control our parents and get what we want. Scout is so outspoken. She does not realize how big her words are. She tells Walter Cunningham that Entailments are bad. This makes everyone quiet. I really did not get it. Why did this statement make everyone get so tense and leave. If anyone could help me understand this that would be great. It is weird though, that Jem knew something was going on. He had an instinct to go help his father. Then Scout really ends up being the person who saved the day.

It wasn't that Jem had to go check on his father, it was that he wanted to know where he was and what he was doing. It was simply a curiostiy thing. Also, it wasn't that line in particular that made everyone quiet and leave, it was the fact that she was being so sweet they didn't want to do anything in front of her. (Or atleast I think that's what it was.) I think they were touched by her innocence.
i dont really understand the reason either
What don't you understand, I might be able to help. Granted, I am just basing this off of my interpretation, but it might help.
Random question: how do you say granted? I have always pronounced it like, "granite"?
