I can not believe that we are already this far in the book. I have changed my mind too. I really do not mind the book as much as I thought I would. It is not that bad of a book I just think people over exaggerate how bad it is. I will admit it gets slow in parts, but for the most part it keeps at a good pace. I think I know why people do not like it that much from just reading the first couple of chapters. The words are difficult and the slang is sometimes hard to understand. If it was written in perfect English I do not think people would be complaining as much. Though if it didn't have the accents and slang there would be no personality and it would be a bad book. It would be what most of us thought the book would be. It would be like reading a text book and you would be bored.
There is one part in the book that I keep thinking about though. It is when Atticus's children find out about him being good at shooting. I don't understand why their father would keep this from them. I mean yes he seems like a really conservative guy and likes to keep things to himself, but if he is really good at something I do not see why he should be ashamed of it. I hope they talk more about this in part two because it has been getting to me. Well that is probably my cue to go and start tonight's reading on part two. Well hope everyone is enjoying the book or at least not hating it.

Atticus might have kept it from his kids because something bad may have happened while he was shooting, like the whole kill a mockingbird thing. Thats just a guess though.
Maybe he never told them because he doesn't want them to brag about the things they are good at. Atticus might want to teach them that being modest is better than bragging all the time.
