I am currently reading a book called the "Summer of '98" written by Mike Lupica who is a well known sports writer. The book is about one of the most exciting seasons in the history of baseball, when Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa both hit over 62 home runs when the previous record was 61 by Rodger Marris. McGuire ended up out shining Sosa and ended up with 70 homers which seems unbelievable, but it was again broken by Barry Bonds 2 years later. Lupica tells the story with life and excitment plus it is kind of funny. I reccomend this book to any true baseball fan. After reading this I can now Remember that summer very clearly and I can remember how excited I was whenMcGuire broke the record, it was amazing, I couldn't believe it. Unfortunatly this summer is over shadowed by steroids and the scandels that followed, including a hearing that ended up infront of congress. Its pathetic I think everybody should just let that part go and remember how awesome that summer was. So tell me what you thought of that summer and how you feel about steroids.

that sounds like a really good book even though i am a girl me and my family are really big baseball fans and always have been
I remember that summer too, my family was actually at the game that McGuire hit his 62 hr. I also wish that they would just get over the whole steriods thing. I'm saying that I support steriod use, It's just that it's over and done with and I wish everyone would just remember how fun that summer was.
I read that book last year as a free reading book and I really enjoyed it. I agree with how you feel that the summer was overshadowed by steroids and scandals but people aren't just going to forget about the steroids because they think it is cheating, and it is so I dont think that its fair for the people who dont cheat to have to beat peoples records who do cheat. That is how I feel about steroids. My thoughts about that summer were that it was a good summer for baseball because it got a lot more people into watching the games. I also went to 5 or 6 cardinals games that summer so that just made it better.
My dad caught HR 59. The cardinals record was under .500 that year though, so it was a worthless year for me, I don't care about individual records.
