Stop the Gossip

Hey!!!!! So today, we were talking about our childhood neighborhoods. Well, mine was a lot like Scott's. I lived in this neighborhood until about third grade. I remember there was a deadend alley that the neighborhood kids and I would ride down. There was a dark brown colored house with a porch next to the alley. Well, rumor had it that the man who lived there was cruel and mean. I heard from my brother that if the man saw a dog on his property that he would shoot it. I also heard from the neighborhood kids that he would shoot us too if we walked in his yard and that he would put the dead bodies in the trashcan at the end of the alley. We would even dare each other to step on his grass. I remember one time, my dog got out of the backyard and I was so worried that she would be shot. Of course, she wasn't.

Now my story is different from Jem's story of Boo Radley, but in some ways it is the same. That man at the dark brown house could have been the nicest person in the neighborhood, but we never knew him. I don't even remember his name. It is amazing how rumors and gossip spread faster than the truth. So think twice before repeating or listening to something that is from Sally who heard it from Fred who heard it from Alice who it from the person's aunt's couisin twice removed son.

That's really interesting that you had a similar neighborhood to Jem and Scout. I never really lived in a neighborhood like that, so I really don't feel like I can identify with Scout and Jem but I bet you can. This is a really neat post. I this it's really interesting when the reader can identify with the book and come up with similar life experiences that the main characters went through. :] How are you liking the book so far?

I like the book a lot. It is starting to get interesting. I thought it would be boring like a textbook or something.

that's good. I don't dislike it as much as I used to, but I still don't think it's a very good book.

I like what you said about how gossip goes around and how not to spread it. It is soo true how rumors get started. It is crazy that people would make up stories or tell a story that they might not know is true. Rumors are stupid and should never get started. Like that is ever going to happen. It would be nice though.

Thats is kind f a creepy story at first but it just goes to show you that rumors aren't always true. I had a similar thing happen to me in my neighborhood. There was always this one guy who would run everywhere he went. Rumor had it that he was a drunk and was too dangerous to have his liscense so he has to go everywhere by foot. Well it turned out that he just liked to run and nothing was wrong with him! Thats when I decided that rumors are dumb and no one should believe them. Anyways I agree with you I think the book is getting much better.
