Happiness

Happiness

Her eyes
Wide and innocent
Full of wonder and excitement
Smelling sweetly of milk and baby powder
She reaches out
With one tiny hand
Grabs my pinky
With a grip tighter than I imagined
She looks into my eyes
Unwilling to break her stare
Then slowly a smile creeps up on her face
Until she can’t hold it in any longer
With a mouth of gums she smiles at me
I look at her and remember when I was young
And carefree
I wish I could go back to that time
But then I come home from school
I walk through the door
Hear the sound
Of her happiness
And I realize
I can’t live without her
