I did a little bit of research on the works of Shakespeare and this is what I found. There were three main categories, tragedies, comedies, and histories, along with the last category.
Tragedy- A tragedy is pretty much self-explanatory, it’s normally about a main character or bad things happen. Examples: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, King Lear, Hamlet, Othello, Titus Andronicus, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopetra …
Comedies- Comedy is also a pretty self-explanatory word, but other than having humor, there is normally a happy ending. Examples: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, All’s Well that Ends Well, As You Like It, and Cymbeline…
Histories- About the past Examples: King John, Richard II, Henry IV, Richard III…
Poems and Sonnets-Examples: Venus and Adonis, The Passionate Pilgrim, A Lover’s Complaint…
Apocyrpha- Plays that are thought to have been written by Shakespeare, but they are not for sure his work. Examples: Edward III, Sir Thomas Moore, The Second that suffers a tragedy, Maiden’s Tragedy…For the complete listing of all of Shakespeare’s works go to this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespearean_history
